Today, while doing a tad over 230 kph, the roundel decided to leave. I have no idea what I did to deserve this. I just changed the oil ahead of schedule on Monday. I was being a good boy. We had so little time together! We could have become besties, had beer together, shared secrets, but no instead it abandoned ship and made me think I had hit a bird. Well, guess how much a new one is at the dealership (incl. tax and installation).

I watched my last badge arc gracefully up over my windshield at 75mph. The replacement got epoxied on.

Don’t get it at the dealer. But one online for 25 Euro.

I found some genuine ones for $60 (€50) locally (Arizona) when I replaced then on my E30. Not sure if they’re the same on the newer cars.

I’m going to guess around $100. It’s around $75 for a C5 Corvette.

Installation is going to be rounded up to 1 hour of labor. So at least $200 after the markup on the part itself.

Forget it. Just order a new car. That’ll be the only part that comes standard.

We used to install them for customers all the time (takes like 10 seconds if you have a piece of string). Think they were like $110 from the parts store.

On the bright side (semi-intentional pun, as that’s the part of the badge thats still there), you only lost half of it.
Literally just had a front emblem delivered for a 2016 228i when you posted this.
Granted it’s a different model, but a US/EU 2/5 series comparison could be fun. The 2 series badge lists for $37.89, with $9.60 in labor to install (granted, thats bodyshop rates, dealer service rates would probably be $24). 5.3% Virginia sales tax on the part, no tax on labor, final cost @ $49.50.

I think they changed in diameter when the e9x showed up. I glued a roundel that came off in my driveway but only lasted a year until it decided to takeoff.

The weird thing is that seconds before reading your initial reply, I had a panda-clap-resulting-in-a-bomb-explosion gif open in another tab.

For a manufacturer that has a somewhat undeserved reputation of being overpriced here in the US, that’s really not bad.

The old one’s aren’t glued on, either. They press in and have little nubs that keep them secure.

That’s not too bad I guess. At least for a BMW dealership.

I know its the adhesive backing on the roundel base that detaches itself from the roundel.
